The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Displeasure Regarding Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Response
Countless users and merchants are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Updates
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, from Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
